Biography
2016-17: Placed 15th on the foil strip at the Mid Atlantic/South NCAA Regional Fencing Championships. ...posted a 43-23 overall mark, picking up 10 wins at the Elite Penn Invitational and went 6-2 at the MACFA B vs. C Invitational with a pair of wins over Haverford and Johns Hopkins.
2015-16: Placed 13th in the men's foil event at the 2016 Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Fencing Championships. ...led the men's team with an impressive 17-1 record on the foil strip, with his only loss coming against Brown at the Eric Sollee Invitational. ...posted a 3-0 record with wins over Drew and Rutgers posted a 3-0 record with wins over Drew and Rutgers.
2014-15: Represented NJIT at the 2015 NCAA Fencing Championships. ... Kong went 9-14 and placed 18th in the men's foil event. ... At the 2015 NCAA Regional Championships, Kong entered the competition seeded 15th. David went 5-0 in the first round and advanced to the second round ranked 13th. David went 4-1 in the second round and advanced to the third round ranked 6th. David went 4-1 in the third round and advanced to the final round ranked 4th. David went 7-4 in the final round-robin for a 5th place finish and a qualification to the NCAA national championships for the second year in a row.
2013-14: David Kong whose weapon is the foil, earned a 16-place finish at the US National Championships on April 11, 2014. He was seeded 28th out of the pools and received a bye in the first round. He is currently ranked 24th in the nation and 14th under 20. ...placed 18th in the men's foil competition at the 2014 NCAA Fencing Championships (March 23, 2014), becoming the first NJIT fencer in 10 years to advance to the championships .... finished in top six at the 2014 NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional becoming the only fencer from the MACFA conference to qualify for the NCAA National Championships; The NJIT men finished 5th out of 14 teams ...Kong captured the individual men's foil title at the 2014 MACFA Conference Championships; participated in the Junior World Cup, held in Slovakia, placing 86th out of a field of 182 of the world's best young fencers and competed at the 2014 Junior Olympic Championships finishing 19th out of 174 fencers.
Prior to NJIT: Newcomer David Kong joins the 2013-14 NJIT men’s fencing foilist squad after finishing in the top 8 at the 2013 US Division 1 National Championships and 2012 Division 1A Nationals. Kong, who will be a digital design major at NJIT, ranks 24th in the nation on the junior point standings and 32nd in the nation on the senior point standings. He earned a silver medal at the 2013 Division I National Team Championships and bronze medal at the 2012 Junior Olympic Team Championships. Kong will be competing in the World Cups in Bratislava, SVK and London, GBR.
