NEWARK, NJ – NJIT men's hockey team rebounded in a big way after a tough loss to UPenn with their biggest scoring output, a 7-2 over the U.S Coast Guard Academy.
NJIT dominated the first period firing 16 shots on the Bears.
Christopher Murphy was the only one to finish, off a centering feed behind the net by
Matthew Lepinski. The Highlanders took a 1-0 lead into the second period.
The flood gates opened in the second period as NJIT scored four goals,
Domenico Crincoli started the scoring at 8:39, and two minutes later
Ofir Shoham scored his second goal of the season to give the Highlanders a 3-0 lead.
David Ferrero scored a power play goal a minute later and
Michael Barrera scored two minutes after that goal to give NJIT a 5-0 lead heading into the third period.
Jake Giordano and Ferrero scored goals nearly two minutes apart to give the Highlanders a 7-0 lead early in the third. Louis Depaolis scored two goals for the U.S Coast Guard Academy to make the final score in the game 7-2.
Thomas Pyrka made 26 saves for NJIT and Benner Geurtson made 34 saves for the U.S Coast Guard Academy. The Highlanders next game will be against West Chester in West Chester, PA on Saturday afternoon.
