FAIRFIELD, CT – Head coach
Michael Lawson described the NJIT men's swimming and diving's 132-110 win at Fairfield Sunday as "a great win with a lot of high spirit from the team", as the Highlanders boosted their record to 6-4 on the season.
The Highlanders finished in first in both relay events. In the 200 SC meter medley relay, the NJIT team consisting of freshman
Scott Quirie, junior
Richard Seffrin, freshman
Collin Moore and freshman
Maxim Tillman finished first with a time of 1:51.71. During the 200 SC meter freestyle relay, the team which consisted of sophomore
Michael Sungurov, sophomore
Jack Matusiak, junior
Christian Giglio and junior
Brian Capozzola finished with a time of 1:38.64.
Seffrin and Tillman also placed one and two in the 800 SC meter freestyle in 8:45.07 and 9:00.46 respectively, and during the 400 SC meter freestyle Seffrin added another first-place finish with a time of 4:13.84 and Tillman came in third finishing in 4:22.16.
The Highlanders had another first and second place finish with Capozzola (23.57) and junior
Christian Giglio (25.14) in the 50 SC meter freestyle. Capozzola swam the 100 SC meter freestyle in 59.53 which was good for another first-place finish, and Giglio added a second-place finish during the 100 SC meter backstroke clocking in with a time of 1:02.35.
In the 100 SC meter backstroke, Quirie placed first finishing at 59.53 and in the 200 SC meter IM, the freshman placed second with a time of 2:11.94. Moore finished the 200 SC meter freestyle in 2:00.20 which was good for first place, and also had a second-place finish in the 100 SC meter butterfly at 58.75.
During the 100 SC meter breaststroke, junior
Jonathan Drori placed second with a time of 1:11.06. Sungurov had two third-place finishes in the 100 SC meter freestyle (55.73) and the 200 SC meter freestyle (2:03.32).
In the 1 meter diving event, senior
David Schmidt's final score was 148.60 and sophomore
Joseph Pedo ended with a final score of 120.85 while in the 3 meter, Schmidt scored 160.10.
