CAMBRIDGE, MA—NJIT women's tennis players Ksenia Kuzmenko and Megan Guidry were recognized on the 2014 America East Conference All-Academic team for their performances on the court and in the classroom Communications Coordinator Katie McDevitt announced Friday.

Seniors Kuzmenko and Guidry were two of six women's tennis student-athletes from five member schools to be honored.

Nominees must meet the standards of a cumulative 3.30 or better GPA, have been a starter or significant reserve this past year and participated in at least 50 percent of the teams matches in 2014.  Each nominee is then voted upon by a committee of Sports Information Directors, Faculty Representative Administrator and Senior Woman Administrator.  Only six tennis players make a team, unless there is a tie.

NJIT, which played in its first season as an associate member of the America East for women's tennis, finished the season with an 11-8 overall mark.  The Highlanders advanced to the America East finals but fell short of winning the America East championship on the Highlanders' first-ever try to top-seeded Stony Brook.

Ksenia Kuzmenko, from Moscow, Russia, graduated from NJIT with a business degree on May 20.  She helped guide the Highlanders to a second-place finish at the 2014 America East Tournament.

She earned America East first-team singles honors finishing with a 19-8 overall mark (13-4 at first singles) and 8-2 in her last 10 matches.  The senior went 13-4 in dual matches and 6-4 in tournament play.

Kuzmenko and doubles partner Jana Luste were selected to the 2014 America East first-team doubles team.  The NJIT duo combined for a 16-8 overall mark in doubles competition, all at the first spot.  The pair went 11-3 in dual matches and 5-5 in tournament play.

She was recognized by the New Jersey Association of Inter Collegiate Athletics for Women as "Woman of the Year" Award for NJIT..

Megan Guidry, from Baton Rouge, LA, graduated from NJIT with a biomedical engineering degree on May 20. Guidry will pursue her masters in biomedical engineering in New Zealand over the summer.  Guidry combined for a 4-6 singles record and went 5-6 in doubles competition.
