Men’s Tennis Wins at Drexel, 5-2

Markus Schultz (front page) and Erik Artursson (above) were double winners for NJIT at Drexel Sunday

PHILADELPHIA—The NJIT men's tennis team improved to 9-5 on the season with a 5-2 victory at Drexel Sunday afternoon at Vidas Courts.

The Highlanders won two out of three doubles contest to earn the point while winning four out of six singles contest for the 5-2 victory.  Drexel dropped to 8-8 on the season.

Highlander duo Markus Schultz and Arnaud Holl started off the match at third doubles cruising to a 8-2 victory over Daniel Hansen and Badr Ouabdelmoumen.   Schultz won in straight sets at second singles, 61, 6-3 defeating Xabier Saavedra while Holl dropped a three set tilt at the fifth spot to Dan Koehler, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Doubles pair Andres Alban and Erik Artursson won 8-6 at second doubles defeating Skyler Davis and Koehler.  Alban and Artursson each went the distance at third and fourth singles with Alban winning 6-0, 4-6, 6-4 at the third spot over Davis and Artursson coming out on top at the fourth spot, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 against Alex Fiorvante.

NJIT's Carl Jedlinski earned a point at sixth singles in a three set tilt defeating Drexel's Daniel Hansen 6-3, 3-6, 10-6.

The Highlanders next scheduled action is Saturday, April 12 at Villanova.  The match will begin at 2:30pm.
