VILLANOVA, PA—The NJIT women's tennis team got back into the win column with a convincing 6-1 victory at Villanova.
NJIT, winners of the last five out of six matches, took two out of three doubles contest from Villanova to earn the point while winning five of six singles contests improving to 8-6 on the season.
Doubles pair
Hannelore MacDonald and
Nathalie Habegger got the match started for the Highlanders with an 8-7(5) win at third doubles, defeating Villanova's Samantha Schafer and Connor Brewer. MacDonald won by identical scores 6-3, 6-3 at sixth singles over Anne Cognetti while Habegger was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at the third spot topping Linley Busby.
Highlander Brazilian duo
Carolina Zanotta and
Natalia Melibeu squeezed out an 8-7 (6) win at second doubles topping Busby and Kate Pettee. Zanotta picked up a straight set victory at fifth singles over Hayley Sanzone, 6-1, 6-0.
Senior
Ksenia Kuzmenko and
Martina Tripcovici notched wins for the Highlanders at first and fourth singles, respectively. Kuzmenko was a 6-3, 7-6(3) winner at first singles while Tripcovici won in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 at the fourth spot.
NJIT will return to action on Sunday when the Highlanders visit Stony Brook at 12pm.
