NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT women's tennis team won its third straight match with a convincing 7-0 victory over visiting Marist at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility Saturday evening.
NJIT (6-5) won two out of three doubles contests and swept the six singles contests earning the 7-0 victory. The Red Foxes fall to 1-4 on the season.
Highlander pair
Carolina Zanotta and
Natalia Melibeu got things started at second doubles defeating Marist's Callie Marlock and Melissa Carlay, 8-4. Melibeu won by identical scores, 6-1, 6-1 at fourth singles over Marielle Campbell while Zanotta earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the fifth spot topping Lisa Ventimiglia.
Seniors
Ksenia Kuzmenko and
Jana Luste won at first doubles, 8-6, topping Marist's Karly Pong and Sabrina Tahir. NJIT's Kuzmenko won a three set tilt at first singles, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 notching the win over Pang as Luste competing at the second spot, won the first set against Tahir but dropped a 7-5 decision in the second frame. Luste came back in the third set cruising to a 6-4 victory.
Nathalie Habegger won in straight sets at third singles, 6-2, 6-1 over Callie Marlock while
Hannelore MacDonald won by identical scores at the sixth spot, 6-4, 6-4, defeating Nikki Rohan.
The match at Rhode Island scheduled for Sunday, March 30 has been postponed due to the weather.
NJIT will return to action on April 4 when the Highlanders host Manhattan at 4pm in The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
