NEWARK, NJ—Visiting Fordham nipped NJIT, 4-3, Saturday evening at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
With the match knotted at 3-3, Fordham's Bella Genkina came back from a set down to NJIT's
Hannelore MacDonald to earn the deciding point at sixth singles in a 4-3 victory for the visiting Rams.
MacDonald took the first set, 6-3, but Genkina rebounded to take the second frame in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (4) and won the third set, 10-7, to give Fordham the match.
The Rams improve to 2-0 on the young season while the Highlanders drop to an even 2-2.
Fordham won two out of three doubles contests to earn the point while NJIT and Fordham split the singles matches.
NJIT doubles pair
Natalia Melibeu and
Carolina Zanotta earned a 5-4 victory at second doubles, in a contest that was not finished, against Fordham's Angie Dabu and Julie Leong.
In singles competition, senior
Ksenia Kuzmenko won in straight sets at first singles, 6-4, 7-5 defeating Rams Ellie Ball.
At third singles,
Jana Luste also won in straight sets topping Angie Dabu, 6-2, 6-3 while
Nathalie Habegger won 6-1, 7-6(1) at the fourth spot over Leong.
NJIT will return to action on Friday, February 14 when the Highlanders host UAlbany at 3pm in The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
