NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT men's tennis team won its fifth straight match with a convincing 6-1 victory over visiting Fairleigh Dickinson Saturday evening at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
NJIT, winners of its last five matches, took the doubles contests Saturday with wins at second and third doubles while taking five out of six singles contests for a 6-1 home victory over the visiting Knights.
Senior
Holger Norregaard and sophomore
Markus Schultz were 6-5 (4) winners at the second spot topping FDU's Jake Whalley and Diogo Garnel. Schultz won at first singles in a three-set tilt, 5-6 (4), 6-3, 6-3 against Arvis Berzins. Norregaard's match at second singles was retired after the first set with FDU's Jake Whalley leading 6-4.
At third doubles, newcomers
Arnaud Holl and
Carl Jedlinski defeated Knights duo Julien Philippe and Arnaud Valentin, 6-2. Holl won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4 at fifth singles over Valentin while Jedlinksi earned an 8-6 victory at the sixth spot topping Philippe.
Sophomore
Andres Alban won by identical scores, 6-0, 6-0 at third singles topping Gonzalo Quintana while classmate
Erik Artursson went the distance at fourth singles dropping the first frame to FDU's Garnel, 4-6, but bounced back in the next two sets, 6-3, 6-1 to earn the win.
NJIT will return to action on Saturday when the Highlanders hosts ASA College at 10am in The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
