NEWARK, NJ—Three of NJIT's fall season teams will be in action at home this weekend, including the campus wide annual NJIT Day festivities on Saturday. Women's soccer plays at home on both Friday (7 pm) and Sunday (4 pm); women's volleyball is at home on Saturday (2 pm), and men's soccer plays on Saturday at 5 pm.

Women's soccer is home for the first time in nearly two weeks when it hosts Delaware State on Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium in a 7 pm game on Friday. The Highlanders will have ceremonies honoring their five seniors—Jenny Cislo, Megan Dellavalle, Kylie Jones, Grace Seely, and Rebecca Tustin—a few minutes ahead of Friday night's kickoff. Two days later, on Sunday, NJIT will host Columbia in a 4 pm women's soccer contest.

Women's volleyball gets Saturday competition started with a 2 pm contest in the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center against Robert Morris. Aside from all the activity surrounding NJIT Day, women's volleyball will be happy to have a home contest after playing 19 of its first 20 matches in the 2014 season away from home.

The men's soccer game Saturday at 5 pm takes on added meaning for the Highlanders, who will host Georgia State in the first Sun Belt Conference game for either team.

The Sun Belt, a long-established multi-sport Division I conference with league headquarters in New Orleans, is sponsoring men's soccer as a championship sport this year for the first time since 1995.

In reviving men's soccer to its list of championship offerings, the Sun Belt took in NJIT, Hartwick, and Howard as associate members, who joined core members Georgia State, Georgia Southern, and Appalachian State as conference schools in men's soccer.

Among the big benefits associated with Sun Belt Conference membership is that the champion, to be crowned on November 16 in a tournament championship game, will receive an automatic spot in the 2014 NCAA Division I College Cup championship field.

Saturday's game between NJIT (5-3-3 in pre-conference games) and Georgia State (4-5) has importance beyond the Sun Belt Conference standings. It is also a showdown between two teams ranked in the weekly Southeast Region Top 10 poll conducted by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Georgia State is #8 in the latest Southeast Region poll, while NJIT is #9 in the same poll.
