Women’s Tennis Goes 2-0 at 2013 National Invitation Tennis Tournament

EDISON, NJ—The NJIT women's tennis team swept Chicago State and Northern Kentucky by identical 7-0 scores Saturday at the 2013 National Invitation Tennis Tournament at Thomas A. Edison Park.
 
NJIT, which is 14-6 overall, has won its last five matches and will conclude the 2013 season Sunday against Texas-Pan American at 10am.
 
NJIT vs. Chicago State
Brazilian natives Carolina Zanotta and Natalia Melibeu were 8-1 winners at first doubles over Chicago State's Sabrine Navarro and Viviene Noel. 
 
Highlanders' pair Monika Graff and Hannelore MacDonald were also 8-1 winners at second doubles cruising past Cougars duo Mia Townsell and Mysta Townsell.
 
NJIT won by default at third doubles.
 
In singles competition, Ksenia Kuzmenko and Martina Tripcovici won by identical scores at first and second singles, respectively, 6-2, 6-1.
 
Jana Luste was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at third singles, while Megan Guidry won in by identical scores at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-1.
 
NJIT won at fifth and sixth singles by default.

NJIT vs. Northern Kentucky
NJIT's Kuzmenko and Luste combined for an 8-1 victory at first doubles over Northern Kentucky's Claire Spradlin and Holly Robinson.
 
At second doubles, the NJIT duo Guidry and Tripcovici were 8-3 winners over Marta Romeo and Shana Kleynen.
 
NJIT won at third doubles by default.
 
Graff, competing at first singles, won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2 over Spradlin.  Melibeu was a 6-4, 6-1 winner at second singles while Zanotta followed up with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the third spot.
 
MacDonald earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory at fourth singles, cruising past Robinson, while as Guidry added a 6-4, 6-1 victory at the fifth spot.  NJIT won by default at sixth singles.
