NJIT Women’s Tennis Takes Two On Saturday

NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT women's tennis team was victorious Saturday registering two wins over Hofstra (6-1) and Manhattan (7-0) at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
 
NJIT is now 8-3 on the season and 23-1 at home playing in The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.  The teams' lone loss came at the hands of Akron, 5-2, on February 23, 2013.  The first season of competition in the Naimoli Facility was 2010-11, when the Highlanders went 6-0.
 
Hostra Match
The Highlanders swept the doubles contests and took five out of six singles contests.  Hostra earned one-point at sixth singles in a three-set tilt.
 
NJIT's pair Ksenia Kuzmenko and Jana Luste were 8-1 winners at first doubles.  Kuzmenko followed up with a straight set win at first singles, 6-1, 6-0 over Sonia Tsay.
 
The Highlanders Brazilian duo which consists of Natalia Melibeu and Carolina Zanotta were 8-3 winners at second doubles.  Melibeu was a 3-2 (retire) winner at fourth singles while Zanotta won 6-1, 6-0 at the fifth spot over Bianca Derrick.
 
At third singles, Martina Tripcovici and Megan Guidry were up 6-3 over Derrick and Paige Polizios, but did not finish the match.  Tripcovici was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at third singles over Malissa Gilanchi.
 
NJIT's Monika Graff won in straight sets at the second spot, 6-2, 6-1.
 
Manhattan Match
NJIT took all three doubles contests and swept the six singles contests in straight sets for a 7-0 victory over the Jaspers.
 
Kuzmenko and Luste won 8-3 at first doubles.  Kuzmenko won by identical scores at first singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Luste won in straight sets at the fourth spot, 6-1, 6-0 for the Highlanders.
 
Melibeu and Zanotta came out on top 8-1 at second doubles while Tripcovici and Graff blanked Manhattan's pair, 8-0, at the third spot.  Graff was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at second singles while Tripcovici won 6-0, 6-1 at third singles.
 
Hannelore MacDonald and Guidry's outcome was identical, 6-0, 6-1, at fifth and sixth singles respectively.
 
NJIT will travel to Cambridge, MA on Friday, March 15 and face Harvard at 4pm before heading off to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina for Spring Break.
