NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT men's tennis team won its third match of the 2013 season sweeping visiting Monmouth, 7-0, Friday evening at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
The Highlanders started off the match sweeping the doubles contests and taking the six singles contests in straight sets.
NJIT's
Erik Artursson and
Petr Rousar teamed for an 8-3 victory at first doubles over Monmouth's Freddy Marcinkowski and Jason Rothstein. Rousar was a 6-2, 6-4 winner at third singles over Rothstein while Artursson followed up with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at fourth singles over Eric Pierce.
Highlanders' duo
Andres Alban and newcomer
Markus Schultz were 8-4 winners at second doubles cruising past Monmouth's Ramy Bekheit and Jason Prezant. Alban went the distance in the first set at first singles coming out on top 7-6(4) and winning 6-2 in the second frame over Marcinkowski. Schultz was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at the second spot of Bekheit.
At third doubles,
Jack Felich and
Holger Norregaard won 8-1 over Hawks' duo of Pierce and Joe Talafous. Felich won 6-3, 6-4 at fifth singles over Prezant while senior
Fraser Croad was victorious at sixth singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
NJIT will return to action on Saturday at 3:30pm when the Highlanders host LaSalle at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
