NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT women's tennis team blanked visiting Hofstra, 7-0, Saturday afternoon for the team's 13tth straight victory of the season at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
The match was originally scheduled to be played at Hofstra but was moved to NJIT due to the expected rain in the New York area.
Saturday's victory ties the NJIT school Division I wins record, which was accomplished when the Highlanders finished the 2010-11 season with a 17-8 overall record.
The Highlanders have three regular season matches remaining on the schedule, all on the road, and will wrap up the 2012 season at the Great West Conference Women's Tennis Championships in Edinburg, Texas, hosted by Texas-Pan American on April 21-22.
NJIT swept the doubles contests and won all six singles contests in straight sets over Hofstra Saturday.
Doubles pair
Nina Mayevska and
Jana Luste were 8-2 winners at first doubles. Mayevska defeated Hofstra's Sonia Tsay, 6-3, 6-1 at second singles.
Highlander duo
Ksenia Kuzmenko and
Hannelore MacDonald topped Hostra's Tsay and Bianca Derrick, 8-6 at second doubles. Kuzmenko won by identical scores at first singles, 6-1, 6-1 and MacDonald was a 6-2, 7-5 winner at the sixth spot.
Junior
Monika Graff and freshman
Carolina Zanotta recorded an 8-3 victory at third doubles. Graff, competing at third singles won by identical scores, 6-0, 6-0 while Zanotta was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at fourth singles.
Sophomore
Martina Tripcovici won 6-1, 6-3 at fifth singles for NJIT.
