Highlanders Blank Chicago State; Post Ninth Straight Win

ORLANDO, FL—The NJIT women's tennis team blanked Great West Conference opponent Chicago State, 7-0, Tuesday evening extending the Highlander win streak to nine matches.
 
NJIT was selected as the preseason favorite to repeat as Great West Conference champions while Chicago State was picked fifth out of six teams.  The Great West Conference Tournament will be hosted by Texas-Pan American in Edinburg, Texas from April 21 to April 22.
 
The Highlanders (13-2) on the season swept the doubles contests and won all six singles matches. 
 
NJIT's duo Nina Mayevska and Jana Luste were 8-4 winners at first doubles followed by sophomores Hannelore MacDonald and Ksenia Kuzmenko, with a 8-2 victory at second singles.  Martina Tripcovici and Megan Guidry blanked the Cougars at the third spot, 8-0.
 
Kuzmenko won 6-2, 6-1 at first singles for the Highlanders as Mayevska went the distance with Chicago State's Karyn Emeralda at second singles, 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 10-4.  Monika Graff topped Rosalia Tejoprayitno 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) at third singles.
 
Tripcovici, Carolina Zanotta and MacDonald each won by identical scores.  Tripcovici, at fourth singles won 6-1, 6-1, Zanotta at the fifth spot 6-0, 6-1 and MacDonald at sixth singles 6-0, 6-1.
 
The Highlanders will wrap up its Spring Break trip on Thursday March 15 at 10am vs. Bucknell.
