Women’s Tennis Extends Win Streak to Four

NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT women's tennis team won its fourth straight match of the season with a convincing 6-1 victory over visiting Long Island Saturday at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
 
The Highlanders (4-1) opened up the 2012 season with a 6-1 win at Sacred Heart and posted back-to-back 7-0 victories over Saint Peter's and Manhattan.
 
Saturday, NJIT swept the doubles contests and took five out of six singles matches.
 
Highlander pair Ksenia Kuzmenko and Hannelore MacDonald teamed for an 8-6 victory at first doubles.  Kuzmenko won in straight sets 7-5, 6-2 at first singles.
 
Carolina Zanotta and Martina Tripcovici were 8-4 winners at the second spot over Long Island's Brittany Thompson and Nancy Zonneveld.  Zanotta won in straight sets at fifth singles, 6-0, 6-2.
 
The Highlanders won at third doubles and sixth singles by default.
 
Jana Luste, competing at third singles came out on top of Long Island's Lisa Maas, 6-3, 6-1 followed by a 6-1, 6-2 victory at fourth singles by teammate Monika Graff.
 
The only win for the Blackbirds came at second singles in a three-set tilt.
 
The Highlanders will return to action this weekend at Akron on Saturday and Pittsburgh on Sunday.  The match at Akron is scheduled for 4pm and the Pittsburgh match will start at 10am.
