NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT women's tennis team improved to 7-2 on the season with a convincing 6-1 victory over visiting Villanova Saturday afternoon at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
The Highlanders, winners of its last seven out of eight matches, earned the doubles point and won the first five singles contests Saturday.
NJIT's
Jana Luste and
Nina Mayevska were 8-3 winners at first doubles over Villanova's Mikelle Mancini and Sydney West. Luste and Mayevska both won in straight sets at second (6-2, 7-5) and fourth singles (6-1, 6-3).
Highlander duo
Ksenia Kuzmenko and
Hannelore MacDonald topped Villanova's Allison Solberg and Alexandra Harding at the second spot, 8-3. Kuzmenko won in straight sets at first singles, 6-1, 6-4.
Freshman
Carolina Zanotta and sophomore
Martina Tripcovici won easily at third singles, 8-1. Zanotta was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at fifth singles.
NJIT's
Monika Graff defeated Sydney West, 6-3, 6-0 at third singles.
The Highlanders return to action on February 25 at 6pm hosting LaSalle at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
