NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT women's tennis team blanked visiting Rhode Island, 7-0, Friday evening at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
NJIT (6-2) swept the doubles competition and took all six singles contests in straight sets over the Rams.
Highlander pair
Jana Luste and
Nina Mayevska swept Rhode Island's Pam Emery and Karolina Wojciak, 8-0 at first doubles.
At second and third doubles, NJIT defeated the Rams by identical scores, 8-3.
Ksenia Kuzmenko and
Hannelore MacDonald competed at the second spot while
Monika Graff and
Carolina Zanotta were winners at third doubles.
Kuzmenko was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at first singles over Pam Emery followed by a 6-3, 6-4 victory by Luste.
Graff, a third singles, defeated Rhode Island's Tristany Leikem, 6-1, 6-2 and Mayevska won 6-0, 6-1 at fourth singles. Zanotta was a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the fifth spot.
Sophomore
Martina Tripcovici was the final NJIT winner at sixth singles, winning by identical scores, 6-4, 6-4 over Karolina Wojciak.
The Highlanders will return to action Saturday at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility and host Villanova at 10am.
