NEWARK, NJ – The Monmouth men's tennis team edged NJIT 4-3 Saturday afternoon in The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility on the campus of NJIT.
In singles competition, NJIT and Monmouth recorded three victories apiece.
NJIT's Petr Rousar won by identical scores at first singles, 6-4, 6-4. Ike Kiro won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4 at third singles and Martin Cederqvist notched a point for the Highlanders third at the sixth spot with a three-set tilt, 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-2.
Monmouth was victorious at second, fourth and fifth singles.
The Hawks took the first doubles contest, 8-5, over Kiro and Cederqvist but Rousar and Joao Tasca defeated Monmouth's duo 8-2 at the second spot. Monmouth earned the doubles point with an 8-6 victory over NJIT's Fraser Croad and Bryan Keelan at third doubles.
NJIT will return to action on Saturday and host Niagara and Wagner at 9am/2pm in The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
