Women’s Tennis Wins Fourth Straight

PHILADELPHIA
– The NJIT women's tennis team claimed its fourth consecutive win with a convincing 6-1 victory over St. Joseph's (PA) Tuesday afternoon.

 

The Highlanders streak began over Spring Break in Orlando, Florida.  NJIT opened up play against Great West Conference opponent North Dakota and Liberty.  In both matches the Highlanders fell but bounced back in its final match of the trip with a 6-1 victory over Florida A&M.

 

This past weekend, NJIT picked up two 5-0 wins in The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility over Saint Francis (PA) and Hartford.

 

Tuesday the Highlanders took five out of six singles contests and swept the doubles competition.

 

Freshman Monika Graff competing at second singles defeated St. Joseph's Devi Jadeja in a three-set tilt, 6-1, 5-7, 11-9.  Graff teamed with senior Ana Lidon at third doubles took the Hawks, 8-1.  Lidon won in straight sets at fifth singles, 6-2, 6-0.

 

Jana Luste and Martina Tripcovici won in straight sets at third and sixth singles.  Luste teamed with Nina Mayevska at first doubles topping Casey Robinson and Maggie Mullaney, 8-4.

 

Hannelore MacDonald lost her first set at fourth singles but bounced back with a 6-1, 10-8 win over Tara Walsh.  MacDonald and Ksenia Kuzmenko blanked Saint Joseph's Walsh and Kate Dowd, 8-0, at second doubles.

 

The Highlanders (9-7) will return to action on Saturday at 2pm when the team travels to Hofstra.
