NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT women's fencing team opened the 2011-12 season hosting Fairleigh Dickinson and Hunter Sunday afternoon at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility. The meet was originally scheduled to be hosted by Hunter.
Sunday, the Highlanders registered two wins edging FDU (14-13) and defeating Hunter (20-7) improving to 2-0 on the young season.
Foilist
Jennifer Ramos finished the day perfect with a 5-0 record (2-0 vs. FDU; 3-0 vs. Hunter). Freshman
Hannah Huan, competing in her first collegiate fencing meet, notched a 4-1 record on the foil strip. The foil team posted a 12-3 overall record vs. FDU and Hunter.
Senior
Jaila Graham and freshman
Julia Aronov finished with a 5-1 record on the epee strip. The only loss of the day for each fencer came vs. FDU.
Macarena Maldonado swept Hunter 3-0. The epee team combined for a 13-5 record.
Jennifer Silva posted a 3-3 record on the saber strip (2-1 vs. Hunter; 1-2 vs. FDU).
Also competing in their first collegiate fencing match was:

Lauren Dupuis.
The NJIT women's fencing team will return to action on Sunday, December 4 at the NIFWA Christmas Invitational at the Cobra Fencing Club in Jersey City, NJ.
