NJIT 15 at Franklin & Marshall 1

Nicholas Raite

Following up yesterday's exciting win over Millersville, the Highlanders kept the pedal to the metal, against the Diplomats of Franklin & Marshall. A 15 -1 victory was actually the result of good sportsmanship by the Highlanders who could have run up the score against an undermanned opponent.

F & M had only nine skaters to start the game and were quickly worn out by the superior numbers and talent of the Highlanders.

NJIT scored early and often, leaving no doubt about the outcome.  The score was 7-0 by the end of the 1st period and 10-0 early in the 2nd session, at which point the top forwards were removed from the game.

Led by Adam Finkle, who not only scored his first career goal, but also his first career hat trick for NJIT, the remaining players continued to dominate as the lead grew to 13-0 going into the final period.

The Highlanders held F & M scoreless until the home team broke through with a lone tally with 5:26 left to play to ruin Nicholas Raite's shut-out bid.  The only thing left to do was finish off Finkle's hat trick - which he did at the 1:15 mark - and Ryan Calabro to score his first goal as a Highlander - which he did with 10 seconds left in the game.

The Highlanders have won five of the last six games and are now in control of their own destiny.  With 3 league games (Scranton, LaSalle & CW Post) left to play.

NJIT needs four points to  earn an invite to the playoffs in only their 2nd year in ACHA D-II.
