Track and Field Opens 2011 Season at Army Carleton Crowell Open

Vincia Jackson captures women's 800 meter title setting new NJIT school/freshman record

WEST POINT, NY
– The NJIT Indoor Track and Field teams opened the 2011 season competing at the Army Carleton Crowell Open this past weekend.

 

The NJIT women had a strong performance capturing two individual titles and setting eight school records and eight freshman records.

 

Freshman Vincia Jackson won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:21.30 and was lead leg of the women's 4x400 relay which finished third.  The time of 2:21.30 is a new school-record and freshman record at NJIT.

 

Classmate Kelsey Jackson won the women's 200 meter title clocking in at 26.93.  Jackson competing in the women's high jump finished in a three-way tie at 5-foot-3 and ran the second leg of the women's 4x400 relay.  Jackson's time in the 200 meter run and high jump are both a school and freshman record.

 

Victoria Creque-Steele had a stellar weekend setting school and freshman records in the 60 meter (8.38), long jump (16-0) and triple jump (33-4).

 

Sophomore Ewelina Marut set a school-record in the women's 5000 meter run with a time of 19:30.03, good for third place.

Nicole Vazquez placed eighth in the women's pault vault with a height of (9-02), setting a new NJIT record.  Vazquez was also a member of the 4x400 relay.

 

On the men's side, Daniel Rondon placed fourth and Brian Mendez took fifth in the men's 5000 meter run.  Sprinter Ruben Santos placed fifth in the men's 200 meter run at 23.31.

 

Weight thrower Josh Dolisca finished third in the men's weight throw with a distance of 51-0 and fourth in the men's shot put with a mark of 47-02.

 

The Highlanders will return to action on Saturday when the team competes in the NYRR Collegiate I at The Armory in New York.
