BRONX, NY – The NJIT women's tennis team opened the 2010 fall season with a 4-3 victory over Fordham at Hawthorn/Rooney Courts Wednesday afternoon.

The Highlanders opened the match taking two out of three doubles contests.  NJIT's doubles pair Martina Tripcovici and Jana Luste were 8-1 winners at second doubles. Captain Ana Lidon and Hannelore MacDonald won at third doubles, 8-6.

In singles action, Lidon won by identical scores, 6-3, 6-3 at third singles. 

Luste, a freshman from Riga, Latvia recorded her first collegiate victory at fifth singles with a 6-3, 6-4 victory. 

MacDonald also registered her first college victory at the sixth spot with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Fordham's Monika Chao.

The Highlanders will return to action this weekend at the two-day Stony Brook Invitational.
