LOUDONVILLE, NY – The NJIT men's tennis team extended its season win streak to seven matches with a pair of wins over Hartford (7-0) and Siena (6-1) Saturday afternoon.
The Highlanders, who won five of the six singles spots and claimed the doubles point by sweeping all three spots over Siena, improve to 15-5 on the season.
All five of the singles wins came in straight sets for the Highlanders. Siena, who has lost 10-straight matches picked up its only win at second singles.
NJIT opened the second match of the day with three doubles wins. Dimitri Athans and Fraser Croad topped Mike Amico and Vik Kadaba, 8-2, in first doubles. Stephen Erickson and Cosmin Chiujdea were 8-6 winners at the second spot and Carl Lundquist and Dan Salomon teamed for an 8-3 win at third doubles.
The straight set winners for the Highlanders were: Lunquist over Amico at first singles, 6-3, 6-3; Diego Abreu at third singles, 6-0, 6-0; Chiujdea at the fourth spot, 6-1, 6-3; Athans over Rob Cooperman at fifth singles, 6-1, 6-3 and Salomon at sixth singles, 6-1, 6-0.
In the first match of the day, NJIT blanked Hartford, 7-0, sweeping both doubles and singles competition.
NJIT won all three doubles contests by the score of 8-1 to claim the doubles points.
The Highlanders return to action on Sunday at Stony Brook.
