ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore outside hitter Billy Gimello posted a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs for Nazareth as the Golden Flyers defeated visiting NJIT 3-0 (30-19, 30-21, 30-20) at Kidera Gymnasium Friday afternoon in men's volleyball action.
Nazareth (12-10) hit .278 as a team behind Gimello's 13 kills and junior Hans Schroeder 12 kills. Freshman setter EJ Wells-Spicer had 42 assists and recorded seven of his team's 13 service aces. Robert Kraft added four aces. Dan Mowery tallied 10 digs for the Golden Flyers.
NJIT got a team-high 12 kills from sophomore Adam Gustafson while freshman Kevin Van Oss collected 10 kills on 21 attempts with four errors for a .286 hitting percentage.
Freshman Matthew Lui piled up 20 assists while classmate Brady Smith posted 15 digs defensively for the Highlanders. Middle Doug Battersby notched five total blocks (two solo, three assists) in front of the net for NJIT.
The Highlanders will return to action on Saturday at D'Youville in Buffalo, NY, at 1 pm.
