Wilson, Flores, and Wilkerson Earn All-Great West Recognition

Jheryl Wilson

OREM, UT—NJIT men's basketball players Jheryl Wilson, Chris Flores, and Isaiah Wilkerson were honored by the Great West Conference for their 2009-10 regular season performances on the eve of the first GWC postseason tournament.

Flores, the standout freshman guard, received honors on both the all-conference second team and on the five-man all-newcomer team. Flores was the only freshman among the 10 men honored on the all-conference team, as selected in voting of the Great West head coaches and sports information directors. He was one of three freshmen on the all-newcomer team.

Wilson, a junior, who played his best basketball in the second half of the 12-game conference slate, was a second-team all-Great West pick. And Wilkerson was one of 10 players on the honorable mention all-GWC list.

Voting was based on conference-only statistics and Wilson paced the Highlanders with 16.8 points per game in conference action. He averaged nearly 23 points in a five-game stretch from February 23 to March 6. The junior also collected 5.8 rebounds per game in GWC competition.

Flores averaged 16.4 ppg in the conference and connected on better than 46 percent of his shots from the field in the conference, including close to 45 percent from distance.

Wilkerson averaged 11.4 points in conference play.

Tyler Cain of regular season champion South Dakota led the all-Great West first team as conference Player of the Year and he was also Defensive Player of the Year. Houston Baptist junior forward Andrew Gonzalez was Newcomer of the Year and South Dakota's Dave Boots was Coach of the Year.
