BETHLEHEM, PA
– A new tradition began this weekend as NJIT took on Lehigh in their first dual meet of the season. Issues with Lehigh's Jacob's Pool forced the meet to be held at the Morrissey Pool just down the hall.

The meet was the first varsity meet at Morrissey Pool in more than half a century, setting the stage for new pool records and a new tradition among the two squads. “It is always great to form new traditions with our competitors. It adds to the vibrancy of the sport and the camaraderie of the swimmers and coaches” Interim Head Coach Michael Lawson explained.

NJIT had a strong showing leading off with sophomore Shawn Bryan, who set a new pool record in the 100 freestyle coming in first and demolishing the old mark from the 1930's. Bryan also took first in the 50 freestyle with a 22.96.

Sophomore Marlon De La Rosa squeaked out a second place finish in the exciting 200 individual medley with a time of 2:11.12 and another second place finish in 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.89.

Junior Christopher Early took third in the same breaststroke event with a time of 1:13.41.

NJIT won the last event of the day, with Bryan, De La Rosa, junior Matthew Negron, and freshman Victor Razuk swimming the 200 freestyle relay in 1:36.28.

Lehigh Defeated NJIT, 100-66.

NJIT will be back in the pool traveling to William Patterson University on Tuesday, November 9 at 5:30pm.
