NEWARK, NJ -- The College of NJ Lions scored early and often but it was NJIT's Jason Anagnos goal in overtime that put the Highlanders on top, 8-7.
Vincent LaRosa had a goal in the first period and a hat trick in the second for visiting TCNJ. A 2-1 (Robert Amos from Nick Wujek) lead after the first period was increased to 6-2 (Corrado Mancini from Anagnos & Christopher Pawlik) by the end of the second period things looked pretty bleak for the Highlanders.
Michael Lipinski came on in net to start the third period and the team responded with four goals -- Christopher Oertel from Mancini; Wujek from Ed Vinokur and Amos; Amos from Oertel and Vinokur from Amos in a quick fashion.
NJIT seemed to have control of the game both territorially and emotionally with 3:40 left in the period. The only question was "Who would score next for the Highlanders?"
The answer had to wait as TCNJ was not quite done yet themselves. The Lions came back to take the lead with 1:27 to go in regulation, 7-6.
How could the Highlanders pick themselves up from that devastating turn of events? By Wujek (from Mancini) to tie the game, 7-7, with his second goal of the night just 37 seconds later. Destiny seemed to be on the Highlanders side and it was proven to be true as Anagnos (again from Mancini) scored the game winning goal just eight seconds into OT.
The Highlanders remain unbeaten versus Mid Atlantic Collegiate Hockey Conference opponents this season, with one game against Seton Hall still remaining on the schedule.
The team will enjoy the weekend off for Thanksgiving and return for the last two games of the semester on Saturday 12/4 against Princeton at Baker Rink and UPENN at home on Sunday 12/5.
