BRONX, NY – The NJIT men's tennis team was dominant in its 6-1 victory at Fordham Wednesday afternoon taking five out of six singles matches and sweeping in doubles competition.
NJIT doubles partners' Ike Kiro and Martin Cederqvist teamed up for an 8-4 win at first doubles over Fordham's Nick Kelly and John Thornhill. Ike was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at first singles over Alex DeRienzo while Cederqvist won in straight sets at the second spot, 6-2, 6-4.
Highlanders' Dan Salomon and Bryan Keelan defeated Fordham's Austin Shoup and DeRienzo 8-1 at second doubles. Salomon, playing at third singles, won by identical scores 6-4, 6-4 over Ken Fukumoto. Keelan topped Eli Plangger at the sixth spot, 6-1, 6-0.
Sophomore Fraser Croad and freshman Henrique Moreno combined for a 8-6 win at third doubles. Croad added a 6-1, 6-3 win at the fourth spot.
The only win for Fordham came at fifth singles.
The Highlanders return to action this weekend at the Northeast USTA/ITA Division I Regional Championship in New Haven, CT.
