BRONX, NY -- The NJIT men's tennis team registered its first win of the season with a solid 5-2 win over Fordham Wednesday afternoon.
Senior Stephen Erickson at first singles and first doubles was a dual winner for the Highlanders, who took four singles spots and swept the doubles contests for the victory.
Erickson beat Fordham's Dallas Harting in singles 6-2, 6-1 and then combined with Cosmin Chiujdea for an 8-5 doubles win over Harting and Brandon Abbutiello.
The other singles winners were: Diego Abreu at third singles, 6-3, 6-0; sophomore Dan Salomon fourth singles, 6-4, 6-2 and senior captain Dimitri Athans at the fifth spot, 6-1, 6-3.
In addition to Erickson's and Chiujdea's win at first doubles, Abreu and Athans teamed for a 8-6 victory at second doubles while Salomon and Bryan Keelan added an 8-5 win at the third spot.
The Highlanders return to action on October 2 when they compete at the Sergio Tacchini Collegiate Invitational in Norfolk, Virginia.
