NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Three fencers represented NJIT in the epee competition in the 81st annual NIWFA (National Intercollegiate Women's Fencing Association) Championships held at Rutgers on Saturday.
Sherry Edwards was 14th in the A group, posting a 3-11 mark. Jennifer Ramos was 12th in the B group with a 4-10 mark. And Laurabeth Maldonado was eighth in group C, finishing 6-8.
Temple was the team champion for the 13th consecutive season in the oldest continuing national championship event for women in college sports.
NJIT, which had a combined team with Maryland, finished 12th in the epee team standings. Edwards will continue competition in the 2009 NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional at Drew University in Madison, NJ, on Saturday, March 7.
