NJIT 5 - St. Thomas Aquinas 2

WEST NYACK, NY -- In the final regular season game of the year for both teams, NJIT traveled to the Palisades Center in West Nyack, NY to face-off against the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans for the second time this year.  The result was a satisfying 5-2 victory to sweep the season series between these local rivals.

The Highlanders controlled the play in the opening period, as they overcame a Spartan power play goal with a beautiful backhander by Desi Fioravanti and a shorthanded blast from Justin Gelesky.

The 2nd period was more of the same as the Highlanders kept the heat on the home team.  With Tim Cornely applying forechecking pressure in the Spartan's end of the rink on a 4 on 4, Kevin McMorrow intercepted an errant pass at the blue line, walked in and fired a shot over the goalie's shoulder for the game winner early in the 2nd period, while Nick Naumovski worked his magic down low to make it 4-1.

The teams traded goals in the 3rd period as Tim Cornely put home a rebound and St. Thomas scored a meaningless goal near the end of the game.

The Highlander's completed the regular season with a 9-7-0-0 record in the MCHC and 13-7-0-0 overall.  The improvement from last year (2-17-0-0)is substantial and has the team is looking forward to their first ever playoff game, which will be held at Prudential Center Friday night at 8:00 PM.
