NEWARK, NJ -- Fresh off an opening day victory NJIT was back on the ice Sunday against a Bucknell team that had lost the night before. All signs pointed to a easy victory for the Highlanders, especially when Andrew Sindt scored the game's first goal just 10 seconds into the contest, but all the signs were wrong as Bucknell came roaring back to win by a lopsided score of 8-2.
Bucknell answered with 4 straight goals, 2 on the power play, before Mike Melillo scored to make it 4-2.
It remained that way until Bucknell opened up the 3rd period with another power play goal and then followed that with a short-hander in a 5 on 3 situation to make it 6-2.
NJIT had plenty of chances to narrow the gap as Bucknell took 7 penalties in the 3rd period alone. But in the end the home team wasn't able to capitalize on the manpower advantages including both 5 on 3 situations.
The Bisons went on to score 2 more goals in the final minute of the game to wrap it up.
Sindt assisted on the first goal and Chris Oertel fed Melillo on the rush for the 2nd score.
