NJIT 3 - Columbia 1

NEWARK, NJ -- In his first start after the winter break, Yllano Tubijella played as if he had never missed a beat. The Higlanders netminder was outstanding against the Columbia University Lions, which was just what his teammates needed as they searched for their scoring touch.

For more than 2-1/2 periods each team had chances, but each team's goaltender turned them away. With 6:44 left in the 3rd period Tim Cornely gathered in the rebound of a Chris Oertel blast from the point and scored on a power play to put the Highlanders up by a goal. A little over 2 minutes later Tom Lucin scored another PP goal to extend the lead but only for a moment as Columbia came roaring back in less than a minute on their own power play to cut the lead in half. Not to be outdone, Tim Cornely scored his 2nd of the game, from James Wintjen in less than 30 seconds to finish the scoring. Nick Naumovski and Kevin Mulligan had the assists on Lucin's goal which proved to be the game winner.

The Highlanders 11-5-0 overall and currently in 6th place in the league, hit the road for the last 4 games of the regular season beginning at Yale next Saturday night @ 9:30 PM.
