NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT women's fencing team hosted its first meet of the season against Queens Thursday afternoon at the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center.

The Highlanders only competing in two events -- epee and sabre -- were led by Sherry Edwards and Laurabeth Maldonado.

Edwards, a junior, won all three of her bouts in the epee competition.  Maldonado, a first-year fencer, went 2-1 as the Highlanders picked up a 6-3 victory at epee.

Queens won by the identical score in the sabre competition making the final score 9-9.

The Highlanders return to action on Sunday, December 7, when they travel to Jersey City, NJ and compete at the NIWFA Christmas Tournament.
