Union College Nips Highlanders, 3-2

Oct. 28, 2007

WEST ORANGE, NJ - Looking for their first win of the season the Highlanders hosted the newest member of the Metropolitan Collegiate Hockey Conference - Union College.

Union scored twice in the first period and once again in the second, to take a 3 - 0 lead. NJIT came out strong in the third and were finally rewarded as Kevin McMorrow banked a shot in off Matt Webb's leg to break the shutout with a little over 8 minutes to play. Elliot Ruddie scored a power play goal a few minutes later to close within one, but that was all the offense the Highlanders could generate.

Joe Cestaro was outstanding in net once again turning away several point blank shots and even a couple of breakaways.

This weekend the Highlanders are off to Albany for their first overnight trip ever. On Friday night they will face last year's ACHA D-III National Champions SUNY Albany and Saturday night they are looking forward to a rematch with Union College at Mesa Rink.

For those fans making the trip be sure to get to Messa Rink early as the Union College NCAA D-I squad takes on Yale prior to the game.
