Freshman Esther Alfaro broke the NJIT freshman record at the 2012 Great West Conference Track and Field Championships hosted by Houston Baptist in the women's heptathlon by 300 points, just shy the NJIT school record. Alfaro also broke the NJIT women's 100 meter hurdle record
