Ksenia Kuzmenko captured the NJIT Women's Tennis Invitational title in singles and doubles with partner
Jana Luste Sunday afternoon at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
Kuzmenko, from a junior from Moscow, Russia, worked her way out of the singles bottom half to earn a spot in the finals. Kuzmenko, received a bye in the first round and defeated freshman Margaret McLaughlin from Fairfield, 8-0.
In the next round, Kuzmenko won by identical scores, 6-1, 6-1 over Sacred Heart's freshman Katie DeRienzo. Kuzmenko's next opponent was Michelle Dassa of Quinnipiac, which she defeated, 7-5, 6-0. Kuzmenko would then square off against doubles partner Luste. Kuzmenko defeated teammate Luste, 7-5, 6-1 advancing to the finals against Fairfield's junior Sharissa Ryan. Kuzmenko won in straight set, 6-1, 6-2, to earn the title.
In doubles action, Kuzmenko and Luste received a bye in the first round and took Sacred Heart's Nicole Rydzewski and Alyssa Migliorini 8-1. The duo's next opponent was Saint Peter's Livingston and Williams, which the Highlanders defeated, 8-1. In the finals, the pair won 8-5, over Quinnipiac's Rachel Cantor and Sarah Viebrock.
