Making his college coaching debut with NJIT in 2011 as a volunteer, John Sherwood is a New Jersey product, having graduated from Bayley Ellard High School in Madison, NJ, in 1990.

He continued playing at Tusculum College in Tennessee under coach Tom Griffin, who is known as an expert at coaching catchers. Sherwood graduated from Rutgers in 1995 with a Criminal Justice degree and continued for a masters’ degree from Seton Hall in Humans Resources Training and Development and two post graduate certificates.

He is employed as a sergeant with the Essex County (NJ) Sheriff’s Department and is also the SWAT team leader for the Sheriff’s Department.

He and his wife, Liz, are the parents of daughter, Sarah, and son, Jack, who has served as the bat boy for the Highlanders.
