2014: Earned first-team NJCBA honors, the same honor from the NJCBA in 2011 and was also first-team in the Great West Conference in 2011 and second-team All-GWC in 2012 when that league existed. He missed the entire 2013 season while recovering from Tommy John Surgery on his right (pitching) elbow. ...after tireless post-surgery rehab, Roche came back to the Highlanders this year, posting a 4-2 won-lost record, all in 12 starts on the mound. He posted a career-best 3.97 earned run average and a team-leading four complete games (29th in the national rankings), two by shutout. ...in a career-high 68 innings pitched, he struck out 85 and held opponents to a microscopic .204 batting average. Roche's 11.25 strikeouts per nine innings are sixth in NCAA Division I for all games played nationally through June 2. ...at the plate this year, he batted .306 and notched 7 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs and 22 runs batted in with just 85 at-bats, a tremendous level of productivity for such a small number of chances. ...Roche won 11 games as a pitcher in his NJIT career and struck out 202 in 204.1 innings. He was a .291 career hitter in 457 at-bats, belting 34 doubles, 5 triples and 8 home runs, while driving in 91 runs.
Summer 2013: DJ Roche who will be a fifth-year senior and likely NJIT's top starting pitcher in 2014, had a fine summer playing in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. ...Pitching for the Brockton (MA) Rox, Roche was in the league All-Star Game and went 5-0 with a 1.09 ERA in 13 games (4 starts). He struck out 24 in 33 regular season innings In the playoffs, Roche started against the North Shore Navigators and went 7 innings, striking out 10 and walking one, while allowing one run in a game his team won in 11 innings.
2013: Roche missed the entire 2013 NJIT season after undergoing Tommy John Surgery on his right elbow in 2012.
2012: 2nd team all-Great West. ... Roche, sidelined due to an elbow injury, last had an official at-bat on May 1 and last pitched on April 27. He shut down with the highest batting average on the team (.329), plus 10 doubles, two homers and 24 RBI in 39 games. As a conference starting pitcher, Roche posted a 2.42 ERA in four GWC starts. He also batted .403 in 16 conference starts in the batting order.
2011: Posted a 2-5 overall record, 5.94 ERA in 11 games, 8 starts. ... was voted to the all-GWC first team and the NJCBA all-state Division I first team as a utility player. ... In conference play, he started in all seven GWC series and was 2-3 with a 4.12 ERA. He had two complete games, including a 7-inning, 5-hit, 10-strikeout shutout against the Highlanders’ first-round tournament opponent, NYIT. In his first start, he held eventual conference champion Utah Valley scoreless on five hits in nine innings with eight strikeouts in a game NJIT lost 2-0 in 11 innings. ...Roche, who also catches and plays the outfield, is a big threat at plate, having 24 extra-base hits. ...ended the season with a .276 batting average, a school-record 17 doubles, three triples, four home runs (tied for second), and 44 runs batted in (first in 2011; tied for the school record).Â
