Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Highlanders Fall to Monmouth, 3-0, Sunday Afternoon

NEWARK, N.J. — The NJIT women's soccer team fell to Monmouth, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

NJIT generated 13 shots with five on goal, but Monmouth finished with a 21-13 shot advantage and took 17 shots in the second half -- a half in which the Hawks expanded on a 1-0 lead to score twice within a 15-minute span. 

In the first half, Natalie McGovern finished a ball from Maddie DeMaio in the 38th minute to break the ice and give Monmouth the lead heading into the locker room. 

The Hawks tripled the lead in the second half. Evangeline Perdomo scored on an assist from Ashley Lavrich in the 54th, and in the 79th, Daniella Butash converted DeMaio's second assist of the afternoon to make it 3-0 Hawks. 

NJIT opened the game with a pair of solid looks within the first two minutes, with a shot on target from Bella Ramirez and a ball off the woodwork from Lena Dahms. The Highlanders also put pressure on the Monmouth goal with a trio of corners in the opening frame. 

Kirra Hyder led NJIT with three shots while Taylor Stuart added a pair. 

In goal, Kaele Smith recorded three saves during the final 45 minutes of play. Penelope Krieger added two saves during the first 45 minutes of play. 

Monmouth's Tallulah Miller came up with five saves in the shutout. 

NJIT is now 2-3-1 overall, while Monmouth improves to 4-1-2.

NJIT returns to action with a midweek tilt at LIU on Thursday, before hitting the road to play North Carolina on Sunday.
