West Point, NY -- The NJIT men's tennis team opened its fall season at the Army Invitational over the weekend, with the Highlanders earning several victories in singles and doubles action at Army West Point.

The Highlanders picked up four wins in singles play, with junior Maxime Hankins, senior Severin Risan, senior Tom Sorin and junior Juan Dieog Argenal each earning victories over St. Bonaventure oppoenents. Hankins opened singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 victory, while Risan followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win.

Sorin battled through a competitive third singles matchup, falling in the opening set, 6-4, before responding with a 6-2 second-set victory. Sorin then finished off the match in a 10-point tiebreaker. Argenal closed out singles action with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

In doubles action, the duo of Risan and Argenal earned a 6-2 victory over Marist opponents.

"It was great to get the ball rolling," said head coach Marco Matteucci. "We got a lot of matches in for our guys and that's what we needed to give us a base of where we are. Next week the other half of the team will compete and we will have a good amount of information to get us progressing where we need to be."
