LITTLE FALLS, N.J. -- The NJIT baseball team records 12 hits in midweek loss to Hofstra, 11-5, Tuesday night at Yogi Berra Stadium.
The Highlanders jumped on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the third inning. Jack Stead and Connor Klock opened the frame with back-to-back singles before Nick Vega moved both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Ty Sallie brought home the game's first run with an RBI groundout, and Rowin O'Connor followed with an RBI single to give the Highlanders a 2-0 lead.
The Pride responded in the fourth inning on a two-run home run to even the score at 2-2.
The Highlanders answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning. Austin Francis singled to start the rally and later scored when Vega delivered an RBI single. Sallie followed with another RBI knock to plate Klock, giving the Highlanders the lead, 4-2, after four innings.
Tate Jones kept the Pride in check through five innings, allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out two.
The Pride broke the game open in the sixth inning, however, capitalizing on walks, hit batters and an error to score eight runs in the frame and take a 10-4 lead. The Pride plated seven unearned runs during the inning to swing momentum in their favor.
The Highlanders threatened again in the ninth inning when Klock led off with a double and Vega followed with an RBI double to trim the deficit to 11-5, but the comeback attempt ended there.
The Highlanders finished with 12 hits offensively, including multi-hit performances from Francis, Stead, Klock, and Vega. Sallie drove in two runs to pace the Highlanders, while O'Connor and Vega each added an RBI.
On the mound, Jones worked five solid innings in the start, allowing two earned runs. Talon Mihalinac added three innings of relief and struck out three.

NJIT hits the road and continues America East action as the Highlanders travel to UAlbany for a three-game series starting on Friday, the 24th with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
