NEW YORK, NY–The NJIT women's tennis team dropped a 4–0 decision to No. 54 Columbia on Sunday at the Milstein Family Tennis Center in New York City.
Columbia secured the doubles point and clinched the match with three completed singles victories.
The Lions opened the match by taking control in doubles play, winning two courts to secure the early point.
At No. 2 doubles, Columbia's Michelle Li and Amber Yin defeated NJIT's Paula Menendez Alvarez and Lusia Hepcal Barcan, 6–1.
Shortly after, the Lions clinched the doubles point at No. 3 doubles, where Emily Baek and Sophia Wang topped Diana Fernandes and Petra Koszo of NJIT by a 6–1 score.
The No. 1 doubles match between Gayathri Krishnan and Sabrina Lin of Columbia and NJIT's Irene Cocero and Laura Wipfli was tied 4–4 when play was halted after the point had already been decided.
Columbia continued its momentum into singles play, capturing three straight completed matches to clinch the team victory.
At No. 6 singles, Amber Yin delivered the first singles win for Columbia, defeating Lusia Hepcal Barcan of NJIT in straight sets, 6–2, 6–1.
The Lions extended their lead at No. 1 singles, where Gayathri Krishnan defeated Laura Wipfli, 6–2, 6–1.
Columbia then secured the match-clinching point at No. 4 singles as Michelle Li earned a decisive 6–2, 6–0 victory over Asima Sazan.
Three additional singles matches were left unfinished once the team result had been determined.
At No. 2 singles, Sophia Wang led NJIT's Paula Menendez Alvarez, 6–3, 1–1.
At No. 3 singles, Emily Baek held a 7–6 (7–4) first-set advantage over Irene Cocero.
Meanwhile, Margaret Hui of Columbia was ahead of Petra Koszo at No. 5 singles, 6–3, 3–2.

NJIT will break for a week and return to action on March 18 at Charleston Southern (11am) and March 21 at Gardner-Webb (10am).
