Box Score NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT men's basketball takes down Maine, 58-56, on a last second bucket from
Ari Fulton to advance the Highlanders to the America East Semifinals on Saturday night.
The Highlanders used an early 11-4 run, capped by a triple by sophomore
Quentin Duncan, to take an 11-6 lead with just under 13 minutes to go in the first half.
However, the remainder of the half was a slow scoring affair with both teams going bucket for bucket.
It was a defensive heavy pace of play with a ton of physicality between both teams.
After twenty minutes of play, the Highlanders had the 32-29 lead. Junior
Sebastian Robinson led all scorers in the first twenty minutes of play with 12 points.
As a team, the Highlanders shot 11-26 (42.3%) from the field.
Coming out of the break, the first ten minutes was the same pace as the first half. It wasn't until the Highlanders used a 7-0 run to take the 46-43 lead with just under nine minutes remaining in the second half.
The run was highlighted by an and one from Robinson with the cheers from the crowd erupting throughout the WEC.
It was physical down the stretch with both teams going on scoring droughts. It was tied with 11.1 seconds to go, and the Highlanders went the full length of the court as Robinson drove into the paint and kicked the rock out to Fulton who connected on the mid-range jump shot with .2 seconds to go to secure the win.
Leading the way for the Highlanders was Robinson with 21 points while freshman
David Bolden scored 12. Fulton added 10 and eight rebounds with the game winning shot to close out the Highlander scoring.
With the win the Highlanders are advancing to the America East Semifinals in program history.
