NEWARK, N.J. – The NJIT Highlanders earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the Monmouth Hawks Sunday afternoon, securing their second straight win on their home courts.
The Highlanders struck first by claiming the doubles point, taking two of three matches to grab the early 1-0 lead. The Highlanders strong start in singles play added on to their point total and secured the match win.
Senior Wil Jenkins made his return to the lineup without missing a beat. Jenkins along side doubles mate Soma Fukuhara, claimed the first doubles set to set the tone for the rest of the match.
"Great team effort today to take home this win," said head coach Marco Matteucci. "We will take this win as a step in the right direction, but there is still a lot of work ahead of us."
