LITTLE FALLS, NJ – The NJIT baseball team dropped midweek matchup, 8-5, to Seton Hall on Wednesday night at Yogi Berra Stadium.
The Pirates opened the scoring in the third inning before adding another run in the fourth to take an early 2-0 lead. The Highlanders got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with Cole Campbell coming around to score on a fielder's choice.
The Pirates broke the game open with a four-run fifth inning, extending their lead to 6-1.
The Highlanders chipped away late, scoring once in the seventh and again in the eighth to narrow the deficit. The Highlanders added two more runs in the ninth inning and brought the tying run to the plate, but the Pirates were able to close out the contest and secure the 8-5 victory.
At the plate, Cole Campbell went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Lorenzo Camilleri recorded a pair of hits for the Highlanders including a double and a triple. Sheehan O'Connor added two hits and scored a run and Jack Stead drove in two runs.
Anthony Anzaldi started on the mound for the Highlanders, while Nelson Smith, Hayden Estes, Talon Mihalinac, and Conner Rippo each saw action in relief as the Highlanders combined for five strikeouts.
