Men's Tennis Bounces Back with 5-2 Win Over Bucknell

​NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT men's tennis team bounces back into win column with 5-2 over Bucknell at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility on Sunday afternoon.

"Its good to be back in the win column but we are ways away from being where we need to be," said head coach Marco Matteucci. "It was good to see some people get over some hurtles.  Ricky won's in three sets after losing in three in two prior matches. I'm really happy for Tom who played a with a lot of heart and got us the clinch point we needed for the match. Nejc battled tough opponents all weekend although falling short of a win, Soma beat a very good opponent today and made some good adjustments from yesterday. We have another challenge ahead of us Wednesday, so we will try and take the next two days to prepare for what is always a competitive match against Monmouth who is currently ranked 65 in the nation."

The Bison set the tone early in doubles play, capturing the crucial point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3. The Highlanders were able to win at No. 2, however looked ahead to singles play to take home the win.

In singles action, the Highlanders secured fives wins across the lineup to clinch the match.

Strong performances in the middle flights helped the Highlanders build momentum, while a gritty two-set victory from Tom Sorin sealed the team's fifth point of the afternoon.

The Bison managed a win at one position, but the Highlanders' depth proved decisive on its home courts.

The win marks a strong response for the Highlanders after suffering their first road loss of the season Saturday against Drexel.
