Men’s Lacrosse Sweeps America East Weekly Awards

BOSTON - The NJIT men's lacrosse team swept the America East weekly awards, the conference announced on Monday. Blake Piscitiello won the Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week, Sullivan O'Brien earned the Defensive Player of the Week, Cameron Kurdyla won the Goalkeeper of the Week, and Nirio Garcia received the Faceoff Specialist of the Week. All four players earned their first career America East weekly award.
 
NJIT is coming off a 2-0 week, with a 22-8 win over Hampton and a 17-10 victory over St. John's.
 
Piscitiello led the Highlanders with 17 points (9 goals, 8 assists). The freshman recorded eight points (3 goals, 5 assists) against Hampton and nine points (6 goals, 3 assists) against St. John's.
 
O'Brien had 12 ground balls and six caused turnovers as NJIT allowed just 18 goals in two games. He posted six ground balls and four caused turnovers against Hampton and six ground balls and two caused turnovers against St. John's.
 
Kurdyla totaled 28 saves with a .609 save percentage and a 9.0 goals against average on 72 shots faced. The goalkeeper made a career-high 17 saves with a .680 save percentage against Hampton.
 
Garcia went 30-of-39 (76.9%) on faceoffs and picked up 20 ground balls. He won 16-of-18 (88.9%) faceoffs with nine ground balls against Hampton, and won 14-of-21 faceoffs with 11 ground balls against St. John's.
 
Next Up
NJIT will host Lafayette on Feb. 14 in a Valentine's Day showdown at 1:30 p.m. at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
